Thanks for your interest in our bakery. We are a small bakery in the northwest quadrant of Washington, DC, specializing in frozen desserts and cakes. We plan to open before Summer 2008. We are currently undergoing a name change. Stay tuned.
We recently acquired some tables and chairs. The interior is no longer asylum white, but a warmer yellow and green combination. We got some tips on how to serve coffee and are closer to acquiring a few brewers. Working with the broadband companies reminds us of hyenas on the nature shows, but we're making progress. And we are preparing for health inspection. Meanwhile, we are keeping our block and alley clean which is a constant chore since there is litter and illegal dumping that continues unabated.
We are working with a new city program to paint the alley wall as a mural. Painters will be youthful DC artists; they will choose the subject matter. We are excited to see some color splashed on the wall perhaps sometime this summer.

Are you open yet?
I was just wondering. I hadn't heard anything.
Are We Open yet
We are not open yet. We had to change our business plan after the city said we could not sell wholesale. This means we need to apply for public space permit and purchase chairs and tables. The situation of the city's erroneous vacancy ruling, which ended in our favor in January 2006, set us back financially for an entire year. Turns out the city doesn't make refunds, but only credits your account.
There is no warning for any of these municipal surprises--no advisories, no assistance. And any change takes multiple visits to city offices. You take your lumps, and forge ahead.
But we have rebounded and we plan to have the finances, equipment, and the paperwork completed before February 2007.
